Junagadh BJP leader Girish Kotecha’s son faces defeat, Congress leader joins BJP after losing

BJP has secured control in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation elections. The party has won 40 out of 60 seats, crossing the majority mark. 

Independent candidate Ashwin Bharai emerged victorious with a margin of 4,431 votes. Meanwhile, the Congress candidate who lost in this ward has now joined the BJP.

Independent candidate beats BJP and Congress

According to reports, in Ward No 9 of Junagadh Municipal Corporation, independent candidate Ashwin Bharai caused a major upset by defeating Parth, son of former deputy mayor Girish Kotecha, and Congress candidate Mahipatsinh Basiya. 

However, within minutes of the results being announced, Congress candidate Mahipatsinh switched to the BJP. Akash Katara formally inducted Mahipatsinh Basiya into the party by making him wear the BJP scarf. Speaking on this, he stated, “I got what I wanted and did what I intended to do.”

Notably, through these local body elections, BJP leader Girish Kotecha’s son, Parth Kotecha has failed in his political debut.
