ISKCON bridge accident: HC again rejects Tathya Patel’s bail application

Earlier, both trial court and high court had also rejected his bail application

It has been almost eight months since one of the most tragic road accidents in Gujarat occurred on the ISKCON bridge on SG Highway in July 2023.

A speeding luxury car with Tathya Patel on the steering wheel claimed the lives of nine innocent people.

In order to get bail, accused Patel applied in the Gujarat High Court, citing alleged ‘chest pain’.

He mentioned in the application that he was suffering from chest problems and an irregular heartbeat and needed treatment. He requested bail on medical grounds.

Responding to this, the HC judge rejected his bail application, saying it is ‘a normal issue’ and ‘it happens’.

The HC judge said that in today’s time, chest pain has become normal.

He eventually had to withdraw his bail plea while the HC had already rejected Patel’s application.

Earlier, the trial court and high court had also rejected his bail application.

Patel is currently imprisoned in Sabarmati Jail. In this case, the accused Patel has been booked under serious Section 308 of the attempt to culpable homicide and other Sections, including 279, 337, 338, 304, 504, 506(2), 114, 188 Motor Vehicle Act 177, 184, and 134B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Notably, Tathya’s father, Pragnesh Patel, a history-sheeter, had been granted conditional regular bail in November 2023.
