Indian Coast Guard’s body found in Porbandar, Gujarat after a month

The body of a member of the Indian Coast Guard, who went missing in sea after a failed rescue operation, was found on Thursday, about 55 kms off the coast of Porbandar.

A quartet of Commander Rakesh Kumar Rana, Commander (Junior Grade) Vipin Babu, Pradhan Navik Karan Singh, and another fellow member were onboard an ALH MK-III helicopter.

When the helicopter crash-landed in the Arabian Sea on September 2, four people were on board. One crew member was rescued and bodies of two others, Commander Junior Vipin Babu anand Pradhan Navik Singh, were recovered while the body of Commander Rakesh Rana had gone missing.

The Indian Navy had carried out a rescue mission for Rana, but they were unable to find Commander Rana for over a month.

On Thursday, Rana’s body was found about 55 km off the south west coast of Porbandar, Gujarat, said the Indian Coast Guard in a statement.

ICG also said that “Rana’s cremation will be done with full military honours”.
