I-T raid in Rajkot recovers ₹500 cr stashed funds of builder group

Updated: Mar 8th, 2024

The five-day raid initiated at Rajkot’s prominent builder properties fetched unaccounted economic transactions of over ₹500 cr funds by the income tax department (I-T).

With the help of police, a total of 450 CCTV cameras were checked, and it was revealed that, just like in a thriller movie plot, the builder group reportedly rented huts near University Road to hide the accounting details of the business.

Items, including laptops and important documents, were recovered from the huts with the help of CCTV footage.

Based on the CCTV footage, the I-T department traced the movements of some suspicious people. They included the builder group’s trusted people who were carrying a bag to a neighbour's house.

Later, ₹1.25 cr cash was found on checking the spots.

On getting a hint of an I-T raid, the defaulters reportedly threw their mobile phones from the 10th floor in order to destroy proof.

However, the mobile was later recovered by I-T department officials and sent to a forensic lab for testing.

As per sources, materials, including account details, computerised data, etc., were seized during the raid at more than 40 locations of companies associated with Ladani Associates and Orbit Group.
