Gusty winds, unseasonal rainfall hit Gujarat

Anjar received the highest level of rainfall at 2.25 inches, while Gandhidham received 1 inch of rainfall

After boiling temperatures during the day, roads of Ahmedabad witnessed storms of dust on the evening of Apr 14.

The cloudy atmosphere and furious winds with a velocity of 1-15 kmph took over the streets of the city creating a ruckus among the commuters on the roads of city.

Meanwhile, parts of Gujarat were drenched with unseasonal rainfall on Apr 14, including areas of Kutch’s Anjar, Gandhidham, and Gagodar.

Anjar received the highest level of rainfall at 2.25 inches, while Gandhidham received 1 inch of rainfall.

The Saurashtra region also witnessed a change in atmosphere in the evening with heavy winds and light rainfall in areas including Morbi, Halvad, Khambhaliya, Bhanvad, Dhari, Khambha, and Visavadar.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest mercury level in Gujarat was recorded at 40.7°C in Rajkot, 40.5°C in Surendranagar, 39°C in Vadodara, 39°C in Ahmedabad, 37.9°C in Deesa, 37.5°C in Amreli, 37°C in Chhotaudepur, 36.4°C in Gandhinagar, 36.4°C in Bhuj, and 34.6°C in Surat.

What’s next in weather?

The temperatures are expected to rise to 42 by Apr 17.

The Met Department also forecasts unseasonal rainfall in Bharuch, Surat, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Kutch, Banaskantha, and Diu today and for the next two days (Apr 16 and Apr 17).

A light thunderstorm with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph (in gust) accompanied by light rain is very likely at the above places.
