The ongoing Gulf conflict has severely impacted Jamnagar’s brass industry, with around 80% of units shutting down due to shortages of industrial gas and raw materials.

The disruption in global supply chains over the past 15–20 days has affected the import of raw materials from countries such as the UK, the US and Gulf nations, halting production in one of India’s prominent brass manufacturing hubs.

Industrialists said the shortage of gas, critical for processes such as shelling and extrusion, has pushed the sector to the brink of closure, affecting the livelihoods of thousands of workers.

As per data compiled by industry bodies, more than 450 manufacturing units have been forced to shut operations due to the crisis. These units require over 13,000 commercial gas cylinders to resume functioning.

The district administration had sought details from industrialists to assess the extent of the disruption and the demand for gas supply.

In a bid to address the situation, representatives of the Jamnagar Chamber of Commerce, Jamnagar Factory Association and Dared GIDC Plot and Shed Holders Association held an urgent meeting with officials at the Collector’s office.

During the meeting, industrialists highlighted the acute shortage of gas and raw materials and urged immediate intervention.

Officials from the District Industries Centre and the supply department assured that efforts would be made to restore gas supply and meet the industry’s requirements at the earliest.
