Gujarat University question paper goof up, VP denies rumours of paper leak

Ruckus followed in all five centres among sixth-semester BSc Botany students

Updated: Apr 5th, 2024

In a major slip-up, the Gujarat University’s examination department officials distributed the wrong question paper to sixth-semester BSc (Bachelor of science) Botany students on Apr 4, which was originally scheduled for Apr 5.

Students across the centres were expecting the paper ‘Angiosperms, Plant Anatomy, Advanced Biochemistry, and Microbiology’ while they received ‘Advanced Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology’ with code number 308, which was supposed to be taken today (Apr 5) at 11.30 a.m.

Ruckus followed in all five centres among sixth-semester BSc Botany students. The department stopped the paper and took back all the papers, knowing about the lapse.

Students awaited correct question papers

After a wait of over an hour, the university could scan the correct question papers and mail them to different centres, which were later printed by the respective centres and handed over to the students.

Originally scheduled for 11 a.m., the examination was delayed until noon in the process of the distribution of accurate question papers. Consequently, it concluded at 2.30 p.m., extending beyond the anticipated 1.30 p.m. end time.

Notably, approx 140–150 students of BSc Botany were taking the exam on Apr 4.

Rumours of paper leaks were also fuelled on social media followed by the paper mix-up, which was later denied by the university administration.

The vice president of Gujarat University, Neerja Gupta took to the social media account of the university and released a video saying, “There was no paper leak in the ongoing examination on Apr 4. A mistake was made in the writing of the paper code; the university distributed the correct question paper, and the exam was conducted in a proper organisational manner.”
