Gujarat under heat: Yellow alert issued for Saurashtra, Kutch

With the official arrival of summer in the state, the Meteorological Department issued a ‘yellow alert’ in Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat for the next five days. The temperature in Kutch is likely to cross 40°C in the next five days, according to the Met dept.

Temperatures across the state are likely to rise by 2-3°C over the next five days. Especially in the coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch, the hot and humid weather will bring a heat wave from Porbandar to Kutch. Owing to that, a yellow alert has been raised,” said the Met dept.

Rajkot recorded the highest temperature at 39.3°C on Mar 19. The average maximum temperature of Rajkot was 3°C higher than normal. The average minimum temperature in Rajkot last night was 18.9°C. Thus, Rajkot experienced a mixed season with a difference of 21°C in night and day temperatures.

Bhuj, Disa, Amreli, Porbandar, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Naliya were elsewhere that recorded 37°C high heat during the day on Mar 19.

On the other hand, the average maximum temperature in Ahmedabad was 1°C above normal at 37.3°C. Ahmedabad may record a temperature around 39°C for the next five days. 

The average minimum temperature in Ahmedabad last night was 19°C, with a difference of 18°C between the minimum and maximum temperatures.

According to the prediction of a private weather forecasting organisation, the temperature in Ahmedabad may cross 41°C from Mar 25.
