The Gujarat State Examination Board has announced that the Teacher’s Aptitude Test (TAT) for higher secondary teachers will be conducted on March 29, following the completion of the TET-1 examination for primary teachers.

According to the notification issued by the board, the TAT (Higher Secondary) will be held under a two-tier examination system. The first stage will be a preliminary examination, to be followed by a main examination scheduled for May.

The two-tier system for the recruitment of teachers to government and grant-in-aid higher secondary schools (Classes 11 and 12) was introduced through a resolution of the state education department in April 2023. The TAT (Higher Secondary) was conducted for the first time under this framework in 2023 and is now being held again after a gap of three years.

The preliminary examination, which will be based on multiple-choice questions (MCQs), will be conducted at designated centres across the state on March 29. Candidates who qualify will appear for the main examination, which will be a descriptive written test, in May.

Online applications for the preliminary examination will be accepted from February 10 to 19, while the last date for payment of the online registration fee is February 20.

Meanwhile, the board has clarified that the TAT-2 examination for teachers of Classes 6 to 8 will not be conducted for the time being, following the completion of TAT-1 for Classes 1 and 2 and the declaration of results.

Although there had been plans to conduct the TAT for secondary teachers (Classes 9 and 10) before the higher secondary level, the authorities have decided to prioritise the higher secondary examination due to a severe shortage of teachers in Classes 11 and 12. Officials said a separate notification announcing the TAT for secondary teachers, along with examination dates, is expected to be issued in the coming days.
