Gujarat becomes first state to establish Indian AI Research Organisation in GIFT city under PPP model

Gujarat government approved the establishment of IAIRO in the GIFT City and making India‘s first state to establish such an organisation which is going to be operational from 1 Jan, 2026.
On December 30 ,Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel granted in principle approval of the Indian AI Research Organisation under the triplate model which includes state government, Government of India, and Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance.This initiative making the the gujarat the fist the state if country to establish IAIRO in the country under PPP Model (Public Private Partnership).
Purpose of the IAIRO
IAIRO will function as a vehicle and a national, non - profit, multidisciplinary AI research hub, focusing on advanced AI research and development, AI - driven products and solutions, capacity building and policy oriented research, while fostering deep collaboration between academia, startups, industry, and government.
Additionally, an estimated budget for ₹300 crore was approved for the first five years of the project in which the state government, central government, and private partners will each contribute about 33.33%.
“This initiative will strengthen India’s AI ecosystem, prepare future-ready human capital, and further position Gujarat as a global hub for emerging technologies and innovation,” said CM Bhupender Patel .
