Gujarat to begin census 2027 self-enumeration from May 17, door-to-door Survey from June 1

The self-enumeration process for the upcoming Census has been made available online, allowing citizens to digitally complete household details through the official portal https://se.census.gov.in.
The Directorate of Census Operations, Gujarat, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is currently carrying out preparatory activities for Census 2027 in the state.
For the first time, citizens will get an opportunity to participate in the Census through the self-enumeration portal introduced by the Government of India.
Under this initiative, people can voluntarily submit details related to their homes, family facilities, assets and other information online in a simple, secure and convenient manner.
In Gujarat, the self-enumeration process will remain open from May 17 to May 31, 2026.
Here is how to do it:
Step 1: Login to the Portal
Visit https://se.census.gov.in
Select your State/UT
Enter the captcha code
Use of laptop/desktop is recommended for self-enumeration
Step 2: Create Family Profile
Enter the name of the head of the family
Once entered, the name cannot be changed later
Keep a mobile number available for each family
Enter email ID (optional)
Step 3: Language and OTP
Choose preferred language
Selected language cannot be changed later
An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number
Enter the OTP for verification
Step 4: Register Location
Select the district
Enter address details including village/town/city
Enter PIN code
Step 5: Locate Your Home
Locate your residence on the map
Click on “Save and Next” option
Step 6: Fill Information
Fill information related to family and members
Step 7: Verify Information
Review all entered details carefully
Edit information if required
Draft can also be saved
Step 8: Final Submission
After final submission, the form cannot be modified
Complete final submission before the due date
After successful submission, a unique 11-digit SE ID will be generated
SE ID will also be received through SMS/email
Take screenshot of acknowledgement receipt
Step 9: Field Verification
Enumerator will visit your home
Information will be verified using the SE ID
Additional details may be requested if any information is incomplete
Authorities said the citizen-centric initiative aims to promote digital participation, accuracy and convenience in Census operations.
Apart from self-enumeration, House Listing Operations (HLO) in Gujarat will be conducted between June 1 and June 30, 2026 through door-to-door data collection by appointed Census officials using a specially designed HLO mobile application.
Authorities further emphasised that all information collected during Census operations is kept strictly confidential under the provisions of the Census Act 1948.
