Gujarat Police shocker: three cops die by suicide in 24 hours

Gujarat Police has been rocked by three separate suicide cases involving personnel within 24 hours, triggering concern across the department and raising questions about mental health support and workplace stress among police staff.

Woman police constable found dead in Bharuch

In the first incident, a 27-year-old woman police constable posted at the Bharuch police headquarters was found dead after allegedly hanging herself at her residential quarters late Tuesday night.

The deceased, identified as Pritiben Udaysinh Parmar, was a native of Bhavnagar district and lived at the police headquarters in Bharuch. Fellow personnel living in the quarters had informed the local police of the incident.

A team from B Division police station took custody of the body, and sent it to the Bharuch Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said the reason behind the suicide remains unclear. No suicide note has been recovered so far, and the case is being investigated from all possible angles. 

Ghogha head constable dies after consuming poison

In Bhavnagar district, Digvijaysinh Jaydevsinh Gohil (35), a head constable posted in the D-staff of Ghogha Police Station, died during treatment after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance.

The incident occurred near Bhuteshwar village on Wednesday afternoon, when Gohil reportedly consumed poison. He was rushed to a hospital in Bhavnagar, where he succumbed during treatment around 4.30 am on Thursday.

Police said the deceased was undergoing treatment for mental health-related issues. His father informed the police about his son’s ongoing medical treatment. An accidental death case has been registered.

Gandhinagar head constable hangs self at home

In Gandhinagar, Upendrasinh Amarsinh Vaghela, a head constable posted at Sector-7 police chowky, allegedly died by hanging himself at his residence on Thursday morning.

Vaghela was found hanging from a ceiling fan on the upper floor of his house. Family members alerted the police after discovering the body. Senior police officers rushed to the scene, and sent the body to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A resident of Pethapur, Vaghela was on sick leave at the time of the incident. He is survived by his mother, wife and two children. Police said no suicide note was recovered, and the reason behind the suicide is not yet known.

A case of accidental death has been registered, and police are questioning family members and colleagues as part of the investigation.
