IPS Officer Reshuffle Gujarat

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is to authorise key appointments within Gujarat’s police department amid preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The ECI is to designate IPS officers at specific locations across the state, as well as dismiss officers from additional charges.

Typically, officers serving for over three years are transferred ahead of the election announcement. However, this mandate faced delays due to administrative complexities, leaving sensitive areas without police presence.

At present, eight critical locations across the state lack police personnel, prompting security concerns. While additional responsibilities were assigned to 11 positions.

Many officers have surpassed their three-year tenure in their current postings, necessitating reshuffles. And some serve in their native places.

These issues are under review by state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Bharathi’s office, awaiting directives from the ECI.

Collaborative discussions involving state officials, including the Chief Secretary, alongside the state director general of police (DGP), have been underway to resolve the issue.

Reliable sources suggest that the CEO’s office has issued a notification regarding these changes to the ECI, which await clearance.
