The design makeover of the sunset point at Saputara, a hill station in the Western Ghats in Gujarat has become an eyesore after an MLA compared the design with a ‘crematorium’.

After inspecting the site, the local MLA and Deputy Chief Whip of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Vijay Patel, filed a written complaint with the Collector addressed to the chief minister and tourism minister.

Despite huge expenditure, not much thought was put into the design and plan, giving the construction an appearance of a cremation site, the MLA alleged. By building two sheds, a massive expense has been claimed, the MLA alleged.

The development of Saputara’s scenic spots is being handled entirely from Gandhinagar, with no coordination with the local administration, as per reports.

Officials have arbitrarily implemented plans, resulting in a ‘Valley View’ building being constructed in a location intended for enjoying sunset views, but it now blocks both the valley and the sunset.

In his complaint, the MLA stated that before undertaking any development work in Dang, the Gujarat Tourism Department must coordinate with the local administrative bodies.

Engineers should inspect the site and consider the geographical conditions before preparing a plan and executing the work in an organised manner.

This written complaint has been forwarded to the Tourism Department and the CM by the Collector. It is also reported that the MLA personally discussed the matter with the Tourism Minister.
