The arrival of monsoon in Gujarat prompts travellers to visit hill stations such as Saputara. However, in a tragic incident, a luxury bus with tourists from Surat fell into a gorge in Dang’s Saputara this weekend, claiming the lives of two children and injuring many.

Surat’s Bapa Sitaram Travels’ bus (GJ-05-BT-9393) was carrying 65 passengers from Chokbajar and Udhna on July 7.

Around 6 pm, the bus was returning from the picnic and had barely crossed 2 km from Saputara on Saputara-Malegaon National Highway, when the bus driver lost control while making a U-turn.

The bus rammed into a safety wall and fell into the gorge.

The onlookers rushed to help the victims and informed Saputara Police who reached the site and began rescue operations.

In the horrific accident, siblings Atifa (7) and Umar Shaikh (3), residents of Gomtippura in Surat were killed.

Around 63 passengers were injured and were promptly shifted to the hospital.
