Gujarat doctors protests

Doctors across Gujarat have joined a nationwide protest following the tragic rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College.

To demand justice for the deceased doctor, government hospital doctors and resident doctors across the state have struck work. Doctors in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Jamnagar took to the streets in rallies to voice their demands today.

Students from various medical colleges, including GCS Hospital, and B J Medical in Ahmedabad’s Asarwa Civil Hospital campus, participated in the protest.

Meanwhile, today marks the second day of the strike by government hospital doctors in Rajkot and other parts of Saurashtra.

Private hospital doctors have also joined the protest by closing their OPDs. A memorandum will be submitted to the Rajkot District Collector demanding a law for the safety of doctors.

Following the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) nationwide pledge regarding this incident, all IMA-affiliated doctors, along with their associated corporate, private, and trust hospitals in Jamnagar, will observe a 24-hour strike.

All non-emergency services in these hospitals will remain closed from 6 am today until 6 am on Aug 18.

The Gujarat Ayurveda Association has also supported the strike. Over 25,000 Ayurvedic doctors in Gujarat have announced a shutdown.

The incident in Kolkata has sparked widespread outrage across the country, with nationwide protests demanding stringent punishment for the perpetrators.
