The Centre has announced an increase in the strength of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre for Gujarat, raising the total number of officers from 313 to 328.

Under the revised cadre structure, 15 new posts have been added. These will include officers appointed through direct recruitment as well as those promoted from state services. Following this expansion, the number of senior duty posts in Gujarat has also gone up to 169 from the earlier 161.

Cadre reviews are periodically undertaken to improve administrative efficiency and align manpower with evolving needs. In Gujarat’s case, rapid urbanisation and the implementation of multiple large-scale government projects have increased the demand for experienced officers.

Keeping these factors in view, the Central government, through the Department of Personnel and Training, has issued a gazette notification approving the revised IAS cadre strength for the state.
