Gujarat government announces major reshuffle, 37 IPS officers transferred, promoted

The Gujarat government has ordered a large-scale reshuffle in the state police administration, transferring and posting 37 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the interest of public administration. The notification was issued by the Home Department in Gandhinagar.

As per the order, senior IPS officer Shamsher Singh (1991 batch) has been appointed as Director of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards in Ahmedabad. He was earlier awaiting posting.

In another key move, Ashok Kumar (2003 batch), who was serving as Inspector General of Police of Rajkot Range, has been transferred and appointed as Inspector General of Police, CID (Intelligence), Gandhinagar.

The government has also assigned additional responsibilities to Gagandeep Gambhir (2004 batch), currently Inspector General of Police (Administration), Gandhinagar. She will now hold additional charge as Inspector General of Police of the State Monitoring Cell.

Among other changes, Gautamkumar M Parmar (2004 batch), Inspector General of Police of Bhavnagar Range, has been posted as Inspector General of Police, CID (Crime), Gandhinagar, replacing Parixita V Rathod.

Similarly, Raghavendra Vatsa (2005 batch), who was serving as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Surat, has been appointed as Inspector General of Police, Ahmedabad Range. Nilesh Bhikhabhai Jajadia (2006 batch), previously Inspector General of Police of Junagadh Range, has been posted as Joint Commissioner of Police in Vadodara.

The reshuffle also includes the transfer of Bipin Shankarrao Ahire (2006 batch), who has been appointed Inspector General of Police at the Cyber Centre of Excellence in Gandhinagar. Meanwhile, P. L. Mal (2006 batch) has been posted as Additional Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Ahmedabad.

Other officers affected by the changes include N. N. Chaudhari, A. G. Chauhan, R. V. Asari, and K. N. Damor, who have been assigned new responsibilities in various ranges and specialized units.

The notification also confirmed the promotion of Makrand Govindbhai Chauhan (2007 batch) to the rank of Inspector General of Police with effect from December 1, 2025. He has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Gandhinagar.

Further postings include Vidhi Choudhary (2009 batch) as Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Panchmahal-Godhra Range, and Vishalkumar Baldevbhai Vaghela (2009 batch) as Deputy Inspector General of Police in the State Monitoring Cell, Gandhinagar, with additional charge of the Police Recruitment Board.

In another significant posting, Leena Patil (2010 batch) has been appointed Principal of the Gujarat Police Academy at Karai.

Officials said the transfers were made to streamline policing operations and strengthen administrative efficiency across ranges and specialised units of the state police.

The reshuffle will come into effect immediately, as per the government notification.
