Gujarat fake mark sheet scam: 62 admissions Cancelled at VNSGU in Surat

Adding to the ‘fake’ saga of the state’s fake offices and fake officials, a fake marksheet scam has now come to light in Gujarat. Admissions of 62 students in Surat’s Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) have been cancelled in three years as they were found to have secured admission basis fake mark sheets and degrees.
Out of these 62 students, one bogus student pursued MBBS for two years, another completed his LLB studies, and the third enrolled into BCom and started his studies.
According to the reports, the racket was unveiled when the university cross-verified mark sheets of students taking admission from other states. The fake mark sheets were from different institutions in Tamil Nadu, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), Kerala, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
Every year, 70,000 students enrol in Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and its affiliated colleges, of which about 6-7,000 are from boards or universities of other states.
Gujarat Secondary Board already provides information about its students to the university, so their verification is done at the time of admission. However, for candidates from out of the state, the verification takes place after admission.
