GSEB releases exam guidelines and punishments for offenders in this year’s boards

As the board exams for Classes 10 and 12 are set to commence on Mar 11, the district education officers (DEOs) and schools are sent the guidelines and norms pertaining to malpractices in exams.

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) has released a list of 33 offences during exams and their punishments.

Students are also to be informed about malpractices and their punishments.

Offences that can result in the student’s exam suspension:

- Students caught being involved in violent practices, or carrying along harmful objects during the exam will be suspended from giving their board exams for a lifetime.

- All students caught with chits, notes, texts, or maps related to their exam subject shall be punished. If they are found to have not written their exam by their cheating means, all their subject results shall be suspended.

But if they are found to have written their paper using cheating means, along with a suspension, they will face a ban on their next exam.

- If any student is found to be keeping monetary notes in their exam papers intending to ask for help, their subject’s exam will be suspended, and they will be banned for the next exam.

- Exam results will be suspended if the student or their guardian contacts the examiner, asking or bribing to change the marks.

- The entire exam result will be suspended if the student throws out the question or answer paper from the exam centre.

- The exam will be deemed invalid for the student if they tear the question or answer paper or tamper with the original text on these papers.

- The exam will be suspended, and they will be banned for the next one if the student walks out of the centre with the answer paper.

- If the student brings a pre-written answer paper to the centre, their exam will be suspended, and they will face a two-exam ban.

- While paper checking, if two students are found to have written the same answers, both of their exams will be suspended.

- If another student-dummy student is found to be giving the exam instead of the one registered, their exam will be suspended and they will face an exam ban, along with a police case.

- If a specific class is found to be cheating, their exam will be entirely suspended, and they will be banned from the next exam.

- The exam result will be suspended if the sticker is tampered with or removed.

- Students found to be carrying mobile phones, smart watches, or other digital gadgets will have their exam results suspended and face a ban for the next two exams, along with a police case against them.

- If the student is found to have accessed the question paper through social media or WhatsApp before the exam, their results will be suspended, they will face a ban of three exams, and there will also be a police case.

- If a student receives help from outside while writing the exam, their results will be suspended, they will face a ban for the next two exams, and the accused staff-individual will also face action.
