GCAS portal sees over 3 lakh UG admission registrations, PG numbers may rise

The Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) saw 3.20 lakh registrations in undergraduate (UG) programmes till the last date of registrations on June 2.

GCAS is the government’s initiative of a centralised online admission system for higher education across 15 state universities.

As many as  4,85,926 students registered in the GCAS portal till the evening of June 2, of which 3,41,903 filled admission details and 32,646 filled university or college choices.

While 3,19,465 students paid the registration fee of ₹300, 3,15,060 students completed their final registration.

For post-graduation (PG) courses, 1.48 lakh students registered their names, 80,000 filled out admission details, 69,000 selected college preferences, 63,526 paid fees and 61,770 made the final submission.

The last date for registrations to UG programmes was May 28, which was later extended to June 2, while PG's last date has been extended to June 13.

However, the date may be extended further as the final-year students await last semester’s results.

GU registration drops

86,197 students applied for admission to Gujarat University this year, 20,000 fewer than last year’s 106,618 students.

However, registration for postgraduate courses is expected to increase.

An estimated 50,000 filled Gujarat University as their choice, with the university having over 55,000 vacancies.

The students’ second choice was Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) with 78,912 registrations.

As of May 28, a total of 2.73 lakh students had registered and paid fees for UG courses. Of these, there were 1,39,884 lakh male students, 1,33,774 lakh female students, and 4 transgender students.

In PG courses, of the total 1.24 lakh students who have registered, 70,126 are females, 54,584 males and 28 transgenders.
