Four feared drowned as car plunges into Narmada canal in Nabhoi, two bodies recovered

In a tragic incident that has left the city in shock, a car carrying four people, including a young girl, plunged into the Nabhoi canal on the outskirts of Gandhinagar on Tuesday afternoon, leaving two dead and two others feared drowned.

According to preliminary reports, a white Kia Seltos bearing a Rajkot registration was travelling near Nabhoi village when it veered off the road and fell into the Narmada canal under mysterious circumstances. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased have been identified as Harsh Barot, a resident of Ahmedabad, and an unidentified woman, both believed to be in their early twenties. Later in the evening, fire brigade personnel recovered a third body, that of another young man, aged around 20–25 years.

One of the deceased has been identified as Jatin, a youth whose family was contacted after multiple attempts by local police and residents. Eventually, police managed to establish contact with Jatin's cousin to confirm his identity.

The Gandhinagar Fire and Emergency Services received an alert at approximately 2.45 pm and promptly launched a rescue operation. Divers, battling strong currents and poor visibility, managed to retrieve two bodies from the canal, one of whom was a young girl. A search is still underway for the remaining two occupants believed to have been in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

"Initial information suggests that the vehicle suddenly lost control and slipped into the canal. The situation escalated quickly, leaving no time for the occupants to react," a fire department official said.

By 4.09 pm, rescue personnel were able to pull the car out of the canal using cranes and rescue equipment. However, the search for the missing individuals continues, with two teams from the fire services deployed on-site along with local police and administrative officials.
