While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leads the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Gujarat, another former MLA from his party, Niranjan Patel, joined sides with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.

Patel joined the BJP in the presence of state president CR Patil.

Patel has been a veteran leader, serving as a six-time Congress MLA from Petlad assembly seat in Anand.

Patel joins the spree of Congress stalwarts joining the saffron party, which includes Arjun Modhwadia, Ambrish Der, CJ Chavda, Arvind Ladani, and Mulu Kandoriya.

Moreover, Porbandar district Congress president Ram Odedara and city president Atul Kariya have also resigned from the party. Both are said to be close associates of former MLA Modhwadia. They are likely to join the BJP in the coming days.

Other parties are also experiencing a turncoat wave, as reports emerged of a split in the state’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as well. Well-placed sources also hint at NCP president Jayant Patel joining BJP along with his supporters.
