With Lok Sabha elections just a few weeks away, another Congress leader is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

A former member of the legislative assembly (MLA) of Rajula, Ambrish Der, has been suspended from the Indian National Congress (INC). His suspension coincided with his meeting in Ahmedabad with CR Patil. State BJP leader Bharat Dangar and other social leaders of the Ahir community were also present at the meeting.

Today during a press conference with reference to Rahul Gandhi’s Gujarat visit, Congress state president Shaktisinh Gohil said, “Ambrish Der has been suspended from the Congress for six years.”

However, Amrish Der claims that he has resigned from Congress.

Der submitted his resignation to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge stating that he is resigning from the working president of the Gujarat Congress and all other posts of the Congress party. He wrote, “In the past, I have won and served the people under the Congress banner, and I thank the Congress party for their support. Please accept my resignation.”

Der is likely to join the BJP by Mar 5.

Who is Ambrish Der?

A veteran Congress leader, he was an MLA from Rajula from 2017-22. At that time, he defeated BJP’s Hira Solanki. In the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, he was defeated by Solanki. Der was appointed as the working president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) in July 2022.
