FIR against two for blackmailing Ahmedabad multiplex owner
Updated: Mar 18th, 2024
A complaint has been registered in the Ahmedabad crime branch against a father-son duo for blackmailing the owner of City Gold Cinemas in Ahmedabad.
Sanjay Agrawal, who lives in the city's Makarba area, is the director of City Gold Entertainment Limited. According to the complaint filed by Agrawal, his firm had received a notice from an organisation called the National Labour and Consumer Association at the City Gold’s Ashram Road office.
The notice alleged that the employees at the City Gold were treated poorly, and were also paid less than the minimum wage.
Father-son duo of Dinesh and Kishan Panchal, who sent this notice, demanded money from Agrawal around last Diwali and threatened to defame the company.
An amount of ₹2.11 lakh was paid through the advocate at the time.
On Jan 7, Jignesh Saija, manager at the firm’s Ashram Road office, met the Panchals face-to-face, and again, the latter threatened to defame the company, demanding ₹10 lakh. However, the meeting concluded when Saija offered a settlement of ₹6.25 lakh.
After this, a letter was written to the Registrar of Companies by the National Labour and Consumer Association, a copy of which was sent to the Registrar of Companies and a notice was sent again.
This prompted Sanjay Agrawal to meet the father-son duo on Mar 11. When the parties met again on Mar 16, a deal was sealed at ₹9 lakh. However, Agrawal recorded the meeting on video and has now filed a complaint with the crime branch against the duo for extortion over false allegations.
