FDCA crackdown in Gujarat: 703 kg paneer destroyed in 6-day drive

The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) in Gujarat has destroyed 703 kg of paneer over the past six days as part of a statewide crackdown on quality and food safety, officials said.

The action follows a mega drive launched to check the quality, authenticity, and standards of paneer and cheese across the state.

During the drive, food safety officers carried out inspections at 2,527 establishments including hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and manufacturing units. As part of enforcement, 270 establishments were issued notices, while 18 units were sealed for violations.

Officials also collected 95 samples for testing and imposed fines amounting to ₹2.84 lakh during the drive.

The FDCA said the campaign has also helped spread awareness about the difference between analog paneer and genuine dairy products, clarifying that analog paneer is not necessarily fake but must meet regulatory standards.

The department said such drives will continue to ensure food safety and protect consumer health.
