Father alleges police negligence in minor’s rape case, approaches Gujarat HC

A father has filed a writ petition in the Gujarat High Court alleging that the local police did not register a complaint in the rape case of her minor daughter and instead allegedly threatened and assaulted the victim’s family to pressure them into a settlement with the accused.
The petitioner, who works as a labourer to support his family, alleged in the writ petition that his 17-year-old daughter was raped by a local young man, who was blackmailing and threatening her through her private photos and videos.
The petitioner tried to file a complaint against the accused at the Veraval Shapar police station near Rajkot, but the police allegedly turned a blind eye to the victim’s family and resorted to pressuring them for the accused’s sake.
The petitioner’s demands in this case include action against the police personnel involved and the registration of an FIR.
The High Court has issued notices to the state government and the (superintendent of police) SP, Rajkot Rural. This petition will now be heard next week.
