A gang that extorts money by posing as fake policemen and scaring innocent citizens has become active again in Rajkot. One of the two men who robbed a middle-aged man of ₹30,000 by impersonating a policeman near Astron Chowk has been arrested by the A-Division police, while his other accomplice is currently absconding.

According to the sources, the incident happened on February 25 with a man named Janardhan Sahani, who lives in the city's Pipaliya area. When Janardhanbhai was going home from work, two men on a moped stopped him near Astron Chowk and said, “We are police, come to the police station.'

As soon as the victim asked him about his crime, the fake police confiscated his mobile and bike keys. Then they drove him to different areas. The accused first forced him to transfer money online.

Fearing the fake police, the man called his friend and asked him to arrange ₹30,000. After taking ₹30,000 in cash from his friend near Rajnagar Chowk and giving it to the accused, he returned the bike keys and fled.

After registering a complaint about the incident, the A-Division police started an investigation based on technical sources and CCTV footage. It was revealed that the men who robbed by posing as fake police were Sandeep Ramavat and Altaf Memon.

The police have arrested Sandeep Ramawat and seized ₹30,000 in cash, a mobile phone and a moped, along with a total of ₹80,000 in valuables from him. Altaf Memon, who was involved in this crime, is still at large, and efforts are being made to arrest him.
