Earthquake tremors jolt Rajkot’s Upleta and Dhoraji, panic among residents

Multiple earthquake tremors were reported in parts of Upleta and Dhoraji in Gujarat over a 12-hour period, triggering panic among residents. A total of four tremors were recorded from Thursday night to early Friday morning, officials said.
The strongest tremor, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, struck in the early hours of Friday, forcing people to rush out of their homes. Authorities confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or major damage.
According to preliminary data, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 28 km from Upleta. The tremors were felt across several nearby areas, including Jetpur, Jetalsar, Pedhla, Sardharpur, and Nani and Moti Parabdi, in addition to Upleta and Dhoraji towns and surrounding rural regions.
Officials said the first tremor occurred on Thursday night at 8.44 pm, measuring 3.3 in magnitude, followed by another minor tremor shortly after. Two more tremors of 3.8 magnitude were recorded at 6.19 am and 6.58 am on Friday. A subsequent tremor was felt in Dhoraji at 7.01 am.
Following the repeated seismic activity, local authorities declared a holiday for schools as a precautionary measure. Disaster management teams remain on alert, and residents have been advised to stay calm while authorities continue to monitor the situation.
