A team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a large quantity of drugs on the evening of Jan 16 at Ahmedabad airport set for Thailand.

Acting on a tip-off, DRI officials raided the cargo hold of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVIP) and seized 25 kg of ketamine drugs (an anaesthetic abused for its hallucinogenic properties) worth ₹50 cr.

The drugs were in line to reach Thailand, labelled as ‘Hydroxylimine Hydrochloride’.

However, with the help of forensic experts, authorities determined that the chemical was the drug ketamine.

In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the drugs were manufactured in a factory named Meghashri Agri Pharma Chem Pvt Ltd  located at Jalundra in Dahegam, Gandhinagar.

With the help of the local police an investigation was initiated at the factory.

During the search, 46 kg of a suspicious white chemical was found in the factory.

A total of three people were detained and have been interrogated.

Notably in October 2023, narcotics and raw materials for their production, worth more than ₹500 cr, were seized during multiple raids in different units in a pharma company at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra.
