A case has come to light in Rajkot where a group, including a doctor and some, allegedly plotted to extort ₹1 crore from a local doctor by using a private video of him with a female friend.

The complainant doctor runs a clinic near Hanuman Madhi Chowk and another on Sadhu Vaswani Road. According to police, during one of his visits to the second clinic, a hidden camera had captured his private moments with a woman.

The camera was allegedly installed secretly in 2023 by a nearby BMS doctor, Kamal Nandha, who had purchased it online and placed it in the clinic’s injection room. Over time, the camera reportedly recorded around 3,000 videos, including the complainant’s private footage.

After obtaining the video, Dr Nandha allegedly shared it with several journalists and began blackmailing the doctor in 2024. Initially, around four individuals were involved, planning to extort ₹1 crore. Later, the demand was reduced to ₹25 lakh, and more individuals joined the group over time.

As per the investigation led by Crime Branch DCP Jagdish Bangarwa, the accused repeatedly contacted the doctor, both over phone and in person, demanding money and threatening to leak the video on social media and other digital platforms.

Eventually, distressed by the continuous threats, the doctor approached the Crime Branch. A case has now been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station.

According to the complaint, the video was shared with co-accused Hiren Makwana, Ajaysinh Chudasama, and Hardik Dodiya, among others. Two accused Jatin Nathwani and Jagdish Teraiya allegedly extorted ₹50,000 from the doctor, with threats to pay the remaining amount within two days or face severe consequences, including defamation and threats to life.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Nandha and multiple others, including individuals linked to media outlets. The Crime Branch is also investigating whether the news portals associated with the accused are officially registered.
