AMC Naroda Bridge

In a major embarrassment for the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), a bridge under construction in the city’s Naroda area was found to be obstructed by a water line passing through its planned trajectory.

To rectify this bizarre error, the AMC’s standing committee has allocated ₹2.67 cr to shift this water channel. This underground utility will now be shifted to continue the bridge construction.

The Naroda Bridge, designed to be Ahmedabad’s longest flyover, was proposed to be built at a cost of ₹235 cr in August 2021 by the AMC. A work order was also issued for this bridge after the finalisation of its design.

The bridge was designed to connect the 2.5-km stretch from Naroda Patiya to the Galaxy crossroad.

After this revelation, the bridge is bound to miss its construction deadline.

It is noteworthy that such a situation arises as the AMC does not possess the city’s water and drainage system plan.

A similar error in engineering design was noticed in Mumbai’s Andheri, where the Gopal Krishna Gokhale bridge was found to be misaligned with the adjacent Barfiwala flyover, a day after it was opened for commuters.
