Congress cash crunch leads to candidate selling his land to contest in LS polls

With the Income Tax (I-T) department freezing the party’s accounts, the cash crunch with Congress is leading to some bizarre stories coming out. According to reports, an aspirant from Vadodara seat has sold his land to fund his campaign in Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
The Vadodara seat, which brought the BJP a different kind of headache with the change of candidates, is yet to see its Congress contender. Amid all this, the discussions about the party giving the ticket to a wealthy campaigner are heating up.
This, according to reports, may have led to a Congress candidate in Vadodara selling his eight bighas of land to fund his campaign. With the party's accounts frozen, many believe that Congress cannot fund candidates’ campaigns, and therefore, will pick someone who can do it on their own.
Notably, the accounts of the party were frozen by the I-T department over the outstanding dues. Though the Centre on Apr 1 clarified that no action will be taken against the party till the LS polls conclude, funds have been hard to come by, suggest reports.
It is also believed that on Dr Hemang Joshi’s announcement by BJP from the Vadodara seat, Congress had asked two of the local leaders to contest elections, albeit on their funds.
Rumours are abuzz that the party was clear about offering the ticket to a candidate who can spend ₹1.5 crores for the elections.
There are also reports of two candidates refusing to contest on their own money.
Amidst this situation, a Congress leader has decided to sell eight bighas of his land to contest the Vadodara seat.
