Two students in Vyara, Tapi were allegedly made to stand outside the classroom for non-payment of one month's fees. The family has filed a complaint with the education department over the incident.

The case involves two siblings studying in Class 5 and 8 at Khadiwala Gandhi School in central Vyara. Due to a delay in paying a month’s fees, the principal reportedly questioned the students on December 29 and instructed the teacher to punish them by making them stand in the open ground under the sun for an hour-and-a-half. The children reportedly complained of headaches as a result of the punishment.

Following the incident, the parents informed the education department and demanded action against the principal.

Despite instructions from district education officials (DEO) prohibiting schools from harassing parents or students over fees and advising direct communication with parents, the teacher allegedly punished the students.

When contacted, R F Dabu Kelavani Mandal president Mahesh Afinwala refuted the allegations. He claimed that no punishment involving standing in the sun was given. He explained that due to the pending fees, students were not allowed to access exam papers and were only asked to sit on a bench outside the office.

He further mentioned that the family has another child studying in a different school run by the institution, where a fee waiver had already been granted.
