Commuters battle potholed-roads, while AMC busy with cemented roads
Just a few inches of rain has left Amdavadis distressed. Around 140 locations in the city were waterlogged, and the water took hours to drain. More than 3,000 potholes were formed across the city.
Meanwhile, Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has planned to construct 84 cement roads at a cost of ₹298 crore. To date, 27 roads have been completed, and work is ongoing on 28 additional roads. Residents in areas like Odhav, Nikol, Viratnagar, and Thakkarbapanagar are at the receiving end — with entire roads having been dug up at some places, leaving them nearly impassable.
This year, Ahmedabad received over 16 inches of rainfall in one month. As per state government guidelines, from June 30, all road, drainage, and water-related works were to be halted until the end of the monsoon. However, despite this directive, road construction continues in several areas even when it is raining..
Municipal officials and councillors frequently pass through these routes, but seem indifferent to the plight of residents and the danger it poses to commuters. With municipal elections just six months away, these works appear to be more about showcasing achievements than addressing real needs. Many citizens are now praying that no major accident occurs due to construction amid heavy rains.

Heavy rains in Maninagar and Vatva this year have caused significant road damage, leading to small and large potholes.
