Fix 3,000 potholes of the city in three days: AMC commissioner orders officials

A rainfall of 15 inches in Ahmedabad over the past month has exposed the flaws of Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) infrastructure. Taking note of the deteriorating road conditions, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani has directed officials to fill nearly 3,000 potholes on various city roads within three days.
He also instructed officers to promptly reach the assigned zones during heavy rainfall to ensure quick drainage of water.
Between May 29 and the end of June, heavy rains—especially in Odhav last week—led to a tragic incident where a biker lost his life after being swept away by floodwater. Following the incident, the municipal commissioner visited several areas, met with residents, and reviewed ongoing work by the AMC.
During a meeting held on Wednesday, Pani strongly reprimanded the Water Resources Management officer over the condition of city lakes. He questioned, “You speak about interlinking of lakes. If the lakes are really interlinked, why is sewage water flowing into them?”
Despite ongoing work, over 3,000 potholes across city roads still remain unrepaired. The commissioner issued strict instructions to expedite work on draining rainwater from the service roads of the SP Ring Road and from areas like Bopal and the Madhumalati Housing Scheme in Nikol.
