Code of conduct for LS polls 2024: valuables worth ₹5.92 cr seized in Gujarat

As Lok Sabha Elections and assembly bye-elections approach in Gujarat, various teams have been put in place to enforce the model code of conduct, monitor election expenditure, and maintain the law and order under the guidance of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the leadership of the chief electoral officer (CEO).
All the arrangements directed by the ECI have been ensured by the office of the CEO to conduct the general elections for 26 Lok Sabha seats and bye-elections for 5 assembly seats fairly and peacefully.
756 flying squads are deployed in the state to monitor and control election expenditure, ensuring that the expenditure limits set for political parties and candidates are maintained.
The teams have recovered 39,584 litres of liquor worth ₹1.35 crore, 3.41 kg of gold and silver worth ₹2.28 crore. and other items worth ₹2.27 crore including cars, motorcycles, and more, totalling ₹5.92 crore.
A total of 218 complaints have been received from Mar 16 to Mar 20 on the C-Vigil mobile app developed by the ECI.
All these complaints have been disposed of with immediate effect as per the guidelines.
A total of 1,351 complaints have been received on the National Grievance Services Portal from Mar 16 to date, 942 regarding voter ID (Elector's Photo Identity Card-EPIC), 68 regarding voter lists, 20 regarding voter slips, and 321 for other reasons.
Besides, a total of eight complaints have been received from Mar 16 to date on the helpline number of the control room operating at the office of the chief returning officer, all of which have been disposed of.
The office has received 51 complaints through post and e-mail, eight related to media, one related to political parties, and 42 miscellaneous.
A total of 1,47,195 posters/banners and propaganda-related advertisements from government properties and 54,924 from private properties have been removed from Mar 16 till now.
