An inspector of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a young start-up entrepreneur in Rajkot on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as CGST Inspector Dharmendra Saryu Prasad Yadav, had reportedly demanded the bribe to submit a favourable verification report for a newly established import-export company, officials said.

According to the ACB, the complainant, a 20-year-old student pursuing a course in international business in Pune, had recently started an import-export venture named “Bixport” with business partners. During address verification for the company, Yadav allegedly demanded ₹5,000 to finalise the official report.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the entrepreneur approached the ACB, following which a trap was laid by a team led by Police Inspector RR Solanki. As planned, Yadav arrived near the Racecourse area to collect the money, where he was caught in the act while accepting the bribe.

Officials said Yadav, originally from Madhya Pradesh and currently residing in the Bajrangwadi area of Rajkot, has been taken into custody and further investigation is under way.
