A 22-year-old Chartered Accountancy student died after allegedly jumping from the ninth floor of an apartment building near Pancheshwar Tower in Jamnagar on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at Shaligram Apartment, located opposite Goval Masjid. According to police, the woman entered the building around 9 am and used the lift to reach the ninth floor before jumping from the terrace.

The impact of the fall left her with severe injuries and heavy bleeding, leading to her death on the spot.

Locals gathered after the incident and alerted the 108 emergency service. Medical teams that arrived at the scene declared her dead. Jamnagar City ‘A’ Division Police took custody of the body and initiated postmortem and forensic procedures.

Police examined CCTV footage from the apartment building, which reportedly showed the woman entering the lift and going to the ninth floor shortly before the incident.

The deceased was identified as Drashti Jatinbhai Parekh, a resident of the Zaveri Deli area near Kalyani Chowk in Jamnagar. She was pursuing Chartered Accountancy studies, while her father runs a jewellery-related business.

According to police, the family including her parents, siblings and grandmother had recently been preparing for a religious trip to Kedarnath. The sudden death has left the family devastated.

Preliminary investigation suggests the student had been under severe mental stress and depression for some time due to personal reasons. Police have registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is under way.
