Boat registration now mandatory with new Gujarat inland boating rules

To enhance security in boating activities, it will now be mandatory for boat owners to register their boats with the District Collector in Gujarat.
After the boating accident in Vadodara’s Harni lake, the state government has introduced new rules for boating.
The Gujarat Maritime Board has issued the Gujarat Inland Vessels Rules, 2024, which govern the registration, survey, and operation of pleasure crafts/boats. These rules also provide guidelines for regulating boats operating on the state's inland waterways.
Under these new rules, all owners of pleasure crafts/boats must register their boats with the District Collector’s office. After registration, the boat will be surveyed by a Gujarat Maritime Board surveyor.
Boat operators will need to obtain a permit from the District Magistrate or Municipal Commissioner to operate their boats.
Boat owners must follow the prescribed process and fill out the required registration forms. If any boat owner fails to comply with these regulations, legal action will be taken, and the boat will be considered illegal.
