A local court has remanded four men, including, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Yuva Morcha (BJYM), caught for ferrying liquor from Rajasthan into Kheda to two days in police custody.
Acting on a tip, police found a white, Kheda-registered car parked near the Varsada quarry along the Mahi River in Desar taluka.
Upon being questioned, BJYM leader Ishwar Parmar, along with Alpesh Solanki, and Mahesh alias Ajay Parmar admitted that they had just unloaded a consignment of illegal alcohol, and were waiting to get paid. They said that a Rajasthan-native named Dipuraj had hired them to ferry the liquor from Kheda’s Galteshwar and deliver it to one Navghan Bharwad in Varsada village.
A search of the nearby areas turned up 1,143 beer cans worth ₹1.42 lakh. The police then arrested Parmar, Solanki, Mahesh and Bharwad, and seized both the booze and the car.
Since his arrest, Parmar — a TV journalist— has been suspended from his position as office-bearer in the Kheda district Yuva Morcha. Notably, the president of the Gujarat Kshatriya Thakor Sena also removed Parmar from all his positions within the organisation on Sept 5.
