Junagadh’s Manavadar court ordered on Oct 19 to confiscate the properties belonging to the bootlegger husband of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) civic worker as he failed to appear in court with regard to possession of liquor.

The infamous bootlegger, Dhiren Karia, husband of Nisha Karia, a civic worker at Junagadh municipal corporation (JMC), was ordered to appear at Bantva police station in Manavadar regarding an offence of liquor.

Property seized

As he failed to follow the orders of the court, the Manavadar court ordered the collector to seize the immovable property that belonged to Dhiren Karia and the local crime branch (LCB) to seize the movable property.

On Oct 20, the staff, including the mamlatdar, seized Dhiren Karia’s apartment worth more than ₹1 crore in Raiji Baug and four plots worth ₹75 lakh on Khamdhrol Road.

When the authorities went to seal a shop in Karia near Bahauddin College, they found that it had already been sold to someone else.

The liquor case

Last year, a case was registered against Karia at the Bantva police station in a liquor-related offence. As he was a fugitive in the case, LCB police inspector JJ Patel registered the crime under Section 82 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure).

After the court summoned Karia, he remained no-show, and therefore, the court ordered to seize various properties that belonged to Karia in Junagadh.
