Bhavnagar’s Bor Talav turns deathbed as seventh life lost in 15 Days

Bhavnagar’s Bor Talav, a reservoir that once met the city’s water needs, has now become a stairway to death. In a mere 24 hours after the tragic deaths of four girls that shook the state, another life was claimed by the waters of Bor Talav on May 22.

A youth, drawn into disparity by unemployment, took his own life by jumping into the lake.

According to details, 30-year-old Jitendra Makwana, a resident of the city’s Mepangar area, had been unemployed for a significant amount of time. This had left the young man mentally broken and trapped in a state of career stress.

On May 22, sometime before 11.15 am, Makwana went to the Thapanath Mahadev temple near Bor Talav and committed suicide by jumping into the lake waters.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a fire brigade team rushed to the spot, dived into the water, retrieved the young man’s body, and handed it over to Bor Talav police.

The police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated further investigation.

It is noteworthy that in the last 15 days, seven people have died due to drowning in Bhavnagar’s Bor Talav, including three girls, a young woman, two young men, and an elderly man.

On May 8, Lalji Lakum, a mentally challenged man from the Mafat Nagar area, lost his life in the lake. Similarly, on May 12, the body of 45-year-old Abdulmiya Saiyed Abdul, a resident of the city’s Sidsar Road area, was recovered from Bor Talav.

In a shocking turn of events, Komal Charolia (13), Rashi Charolia (9), Archana Dabhi (17), and Hiral Mathasuliya (12), four girls from the city’s Mafat Nagar area, died by drowning in the lake on May 21.
