Banaskantha flood issue echoes in Gujarat Assembly, Congress demands action

On the third and final day of the 7th session of the 15th Gujarat Legislative Assembly, the issue of floods in Banaskantha and parts of North Gujarat created an uproar in the House. Congress MLA Amrutji Thakor raised concerns over several villages in Suigam taluka being cut off due to heavy rains and demanded immediate relief measures.
Soon after the Question Hour, Amrutji Thakor stood up and urged the government to provide cash relief and assistance to people affected by the floods. Speaker Shankar Chaudhary sought clarification on the point of order, but Thakor continued pressing the government to act urgently and support flood-hit families.
Following his intervention, Congress MLAs displayed placards and banners inside the Assembly and raised slogans demanding aid for affected regions. Later, MLAs Dr. Kirit Patel, Amrutji Thakor, and Kantilal Kharadi walked out of the House and addressed the media.
The Congress legislators demanded an immediate survey of crop failures and called on the government to provide cash relief to distressed families in Kutch, Banaskantha, and Patan districts, where heavy rainfall has caused widespread damage.
Speaking to the media, Amrutji Thakor said, “In areas like Vav, Tharad, and Suigam, excessive rainfall has destroyed crops, damaged household belongings, and left many villages cut off from connectivity. We raised this issue yesterday in the House and once again today. We demand that cash relief be provided immediately so that affected families can manage their daily lives.”
Thakor also accused the government of negligence, stating that despite prior warnings from the Meteorological Department, no precautionary measures were taken, leading to the current crisis.
