Deceased Shivali Kashyap

A 24-year-old woman from Assam, pursuing interior design was pronounced dead last month with a suspected suicide in Ahmedabad’s Ghatlodia.

However, Assam Police has now filed an FIR against live-in partner Saurabh Purohit, suspecting murder.

Shivali Kashyap died on June 10. According to police officials, Shivali and her partner, Saurabh, had been in a relationship for the past two years and had recently moved in together, sharing a rented apartment in Ghatlodia for the past four months. The couple had reportedly relocated to Ahmedabad a few months ago for academic and professional purposes.

On June 10, around 1 am, an argument broke out between the couple over the food that had been prepared, allegedly due to excess salt.

That night, Shivali had informed her mother that she had argued with Saurabh. After a few hours, Saurabh called and informed her family in Assam that she had committed suicide by jumping from the balcony.

However, according to a complaint filed by Shivali’s brother Ashutosh, the couple were set to get engaged on August 1, 2025. An earlier complaint filed with the Assam Police also mentioned that on March 16, 2024, Saurabh attacked Shivali on the head.

After Assam Police registered an FIR against Saurabh after the June 10 incident, Ghatlodiya Police started investigating the suspected murder case.

According to Shivali’s brother, blood stains were seen on the bedroom walls and floor at the couple’s house. Moreover, it was noted that falling from a mere 10-12 feet can't result in a severe injury to the head.

Following mounting suspicions, Shivali’s family lodged a formal complaint against Saurabh and his mother, Ranjana, at the Nazira Police Station.
