Another interim CEO for GMERS, 8th in 15 years
Updated: Sep 2nd, 2024
The Gujarat Medical and Education Research Society (GMERS) has once again faced a change in leadership, after Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Yogesh Goswami was removed from his position. Dr Manish Ramawat, the Dean of GMERS Medical College in Vadnagar, will take over as the interim CEO.
Since its establishment in 2009, GMERS has been plagued by a host of interim CEOs, despite the critical role the CEO plays in overseeing 13 medical colleges and affiliated hospitals across the state. The society’s administration and operations have faced numerous complaints over the years.
The decision to remove Dr Goswami, who was appointed in 2022, is believed to be part of the government’s efforts to reform GMERS. Last year, the society faced controversy over the fees for the MBBS courses, and the government was forced to backtrack after a public backlash.
With another interim CEO taking the helm, it remains uncertain whether GMERS will see significant improvements in its administration. To date, the society has had a total of seven interim CEOs since its inception.
