After the cataract surgery horrors, Amreli’s Shantabaa Haribhai Gajera Medical College and Hospital (SHGMCH) is again surrounded by controversy as another case of the hospital’s negligence comes to light.
15 female patients, admitted to ward 3 of the hospital, suffered serious reactions after they were given yet-unknown injections for complaints of fever, cold, and viral infection. This sparked outrage among the kin of the patients.
The hands and feet of the patients turned cold, and they also suffered from severe headaches after taking the injections.
Following this incident, the doctors on duty immediately rushed to ward 3, and all 15 female patients were shifted to the ICU and a separate ward.
Seven patients have been discharged after their condition improved, while eight are undergoing treatment.
Talking over this incident, the hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr RM Jitia, and Dr Vijay Vala said, “An investigation is underway to find out which injection caused the reaction in the patients, and we are taking the injection sample to the laboratory.”
