A total of 13 patients were treated at the hospital on Feb 2

Problematic episodes of cataract surgery gone wrong surfaced once again as seven patients complained of partial or complete loss of vision after undergoing cataract surgery at Maneklal Nathalal Vakharia Sarvoday Eye Hospital in Patan’s Radhanpur.
A total of 13 patients were treated at the hospital on Feb 2. Days after the operation, seven out of 13 patients complained of blurred vision.
Five out of seven patients were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. As per sources, these five patients include two women and three men. The age of one of the male patients was 45, while the other four were 65 years old.
A team of Patan health department led by chief district medical officer Dr Preeti Soni investigated the matter. No police complaint has been lodged so far.
Notably, the HC took suo moto cognizance of the incident where at least 17 patients complained of partial or complete loss of vision after undergoing cataract surgery at a trust-run hospital in Ahmedabad’s Viramgam on Jan 17.
Patan’s case of problematic cataract surgery came a day after the state government told the Gujarat High Court that all medical establishments should register, irrespective of the size of that establishment.
