Amreli politics sizzles as two BJP groups clash

Amid Sabarkantha, Rajkot and Vadodara skirmish, Amreli boils as well

While Saurashtra’s political landscape is already ablaze with Parshottam Rupala’s controversy, an internal skirmish among BJP leaders in Amreli has brewed more troubles in the party.

Amid the backlash among BJP leaders in Amreli regarding the ticket to Bharat Sutaria, the BJP’s cluster in-charge and former minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma were fielded in the district for damage control.

However, as situations went haywire, the meeting ended in a scuffle between two BJP groups in Amreli on the night of Mar 30.

In a closed-door meeting at the residence of Amreli's former MLA, Dilip Sanghani, Chudasama faced the irked BJP workers who were discontent with Sutaria’s candidature.

Amreli MP Naran Kachadiya, Hiren Viradiya, Bavku Undhad, and other BJP workers were present at the meeting. Chudasama assured them that he would convey their concerns to the high command.

The drama unfolds

In a dramatic turn of events, on the same night, around 100 BJP workers showed up at the residence of Sanghani, where two groups led by Kachadiya and Kaushik Vekariya got embroiled in a scuffle.

“I was at a paan shop near Chakkargadh Road when Amreli municipality member Sandeep Mangroliya and three others approached me and asked why I went to complain against Kaushik Vekariya and attacked me,” said Viradiya.

However, Mangroliya reportedly said that his friend Chetan Bodar, who was accompanying him, had to recover a certain amount from Viradiya. “When Viradiya and Bodar engaged in a scuffle, I was trying to resolve it,” Mangroliya said.

“Meanwhile, Kachadiya and his group chipped in the fight and injured me as well,” added Mangroliya.

Members of both groups were admitted to Amreli Civil Hospital later that night. The police have filed a complaint based on the statements of both sides.
