After a sizzling heatwave, several districts of Gujarat including Ahmedabad received unseasonal rain showers on Sunday morning.

“A fall of 2-4°C is likely to be seen in maximum temperatures across Gujarat in the next five days,” said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Amdavadis woke up to a sudden change in weather with cloudy skies and light showers in some areas on Sunday. With skies turning dark, farmers in Gujarat expressed concern over crops like castor, millet (bajra), sorghum (jowar), and fodder.

Rainfall in Ahmedabad

Areas such as Sindhu Bhavan Road, Makarba, Vadaj, Nirnaynagar, Dudheshwar, Usmanpura, and Income Tax Circle saw light rainfall on Sunday. In Aravalli, early morning rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds was recorded in Malpur, Modasa, Meghraj, and Bhiloda regions.

Mehsana experienced heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. Late-night showers were reported in several areas, and a sudden drop in temperature was felt in Vadnagar. In Mahisagar, the weather turned rainy early in the morning. As per the forecast, rain arrived in the region, with rural areas like Khanpur witnessing showers, leaving farmers worried.

Rain and hail in Banaskantha

Heavy winds and rain were reported in Banaskantha. Palanpur and Vadgam witnessed hailstorms and gusty winds, while strong winds in Deesa, Lakhani, and Dantiwada brought a sudden change in the atmosphere.

As the millet harvest is currently underway, there is growing fear among farmers about possible crop damage due to this unseasonal weather. However, despite the crop concerns, the unexpected showers have brought a welcome coolness amid the scorching heat.

As per latest prediction, north Gujarat is likely to witness rain and hailstorm across next week.
